Since the iOS 7 update, the stock weather app on iOS has improved significantly. However, it still misses out on a few features and has a few errors. Thankfully, we have a few third-party weather apps for iPhone that can provide a better experience. Let’s check them out.
1. Accuweather – Most Accurate Weather Forecasts
Accuweather is known to be the most accurate weather forecasting service to date. And their app for iPhone and iPad is quite detailed to provide you with all kinds of weather data at your fingertips. It is mainly known to offer hyperlocal forecasts and minute-by-minute precipitation data. It also has a live radar that can easily help you track storms, temperature changes, ice, and clouds. It also packs in a feature called WinterCast that can provide a heads-up on snowfall probabilities. However, the free version packs in a lot of pop-up advertisements, and you need an upgrade to disable them. The premium version also comes with an added alerts feature, and the ability to add a lock screen widget on iOS 16. Price: Free; Premium Version: $1.99 Download Accuweather
2. The Weather Channel – From the Television Giants
The Weather Channel offers one of the best-looking weather apps for iPhone and iPad. It is an extension of the famous TV channel under the same name. So you also get to watch video content that is developed for television within the app. The layout of the app is easy to navigate, and we could get a good overview of the weather with just a glance. You have all the standard weather data, and the paid version unlocks the forecast for 192 hours. The app has ads but is far less intrusive than Accuweather. It also has a radar using which you can have an overview of the conditions. The daily weather section is also something that we appreciate, given how neatly the data is summarized. However, it does seem to focus more on weather-related content than data points. But given the user interface, and the reliability, we can confidently recommend this app. However, many users have reported that after the last update, the app shows more ads and is a little slow. So, before buying the premium version, test it and see how it works for you. Price: Free; Premium Pro: $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year Download Weather Channel
3. Carrot Weather – Funny Weather App for iPhone
The Carrot Weather app adds a dash of humor and sarcasm to its weather forecasts. When you set up the app, you can choose how funny the app can get. We recommend you keep this setting low because, on a hot day, the one-liners from Carrot weather can roast you along with the sun. That’s a note of caution from our end. Jokes apart, it does a great job of providing weather information too, and we are fans of the graph it provides to summarize hourly weather for the day. Another good feature is the ability to add weather info of five different locations on the main screen. However, the accuracy was questionable at times and what we also didn’t like was the fact that it could not push any weather notifications in the free version. Further, the premium version allows you to add a home screen and a lock screen widget on iOS 16, along with helping you remove ads. It also lets you add a watch face to your Apple Watch. Moreover, you can also integrate other weather apps like Apple Weather and AccuWeather forecasts for more accurate weather information if you have a premium membership. We love how the developers are constantly keeping the app updated with the latest iOS updates. The app will also get a major redesign for iPad, allowing your tablet to become your detailed weather station. Price: Free, Premium version: $4.99/month Download Carrot Weather
4. 1Weather – Best User Interface
1Weather has the best user interface among all the weather apps for iPhone and iPad that we tested. On the main screen, we love how there is bold detail of the temperature and precipitation data. An average user might not need all the weather data, and if you opt for 1Weather, you will get the weather data that only matters. It mainly highlights precipitation info, humidity, UV index, and pressure in the ‘Today’ section. And we felt this is all we would want to know as a summary of the day’s weather. The best part is that it comes with very few non-intrusive ads. However, the premium subscription removes ads and includes features like 10 days of daily forecasts, an AQI card, and widgets for the home screen. However, we noticed a few issues with widgets and adding multiple locations in the app. Let’s hope that the developer fixes it soon. Price: Free; Premium Version: $1.99/month Download 1Weather
5. Weather & Radar – Best Weather Radar App
Weather & Radar is one of the most widely used weather apps for iPhone. In our usage, we found that this app provided more extensive weather data. For example, it can provide information like PollenCount, Ski Resort forecast, etc. If you are someone interested in the finer details of the weather forecast, we’re sure you will love this app. We also like how well-designed the radar is. It is classified into different categories like RainfallRadar, WindRadar, etc. Besides, the 90-minute weather summary for the day is impressive. Isn’t it good to have a short-term overview of the weather conditions? While the free version comes with ads like the previous weather apps on the lists, they don’t seem to be that intrusive. The premium version unlocks all the minute details as we mentioned, and also lets you customize the home screen and disable ads. Although, we feel the UI elements could have been designed better, as they look archaic. Price: Free; Pro Version: $29.99 Download Weather & Radar
6. Yahoo Weather – Best Free iPhone Weather App for Minimalists
Yahoo weather is one of our favorite weather apps for iPhones and iPad. This is because of how lightweight the app is. It does not come with a lot of tabs and has an easy, scrollable user interface. Apart from the stock weather app on iPhone, this is one app that we kept going back to. Depending on your location, the background of the app is set to an image captured in your locality. We feel this is a nice touch. While it does not come with a lot of added features, it does a great job at providing the weather info one needs – similar to 1Weather. The app is fully free, and does not have a premium version – so you do not miss out on any features. Although it has ads, they are fewer in number and are non-intrusive. Price: Free Download Yahoo Weather
